Marketing Students Assist in Solar Decathlon Win

Thanks to a solid team effort which included 13 marketing students, the university’s Solar Decathlon team’s house design has been selected as a finalist by the Department of Energy. The energy efficient design was the result of a collaboration among architecture, engineering and marketing students at Catholic University, augmented by engineering specialty students at George Washington University and graphic design students at American University. The design will now be constructed into a full-sized home that will be shipped to and displayed at the 2013 competition to be held in Irvine, California. Please see the announcement on the DOE Webpage:

The marketing students are all CUA seniors who were enrolled during the Fall semester in MGT 457, CUA’s capstone marketing strategy course. The students developed a full marketing plan around the theme that sustainability is patriotic, and developed compelling marketing elements – advertising, promotional materials, publicity and a developmental plan - that convey and build upon the theme. The marketing plan provided a competitive edge that helped improve the team’s chances for success.

After the competition, the completed house will be erected on a permanent site and donated to a disabled veteran.
