Under the Companies tab, you will see there are over 2 dozen Fortune 500 Companies with headquarters in the area. Fifty of the top Inc 500 are headquartered in the area. Also listed are the public and private companies located here. A myriad of Government and nonprofit organizations add to a robust job market.
Northrup Grumman recently announced relocating their headquarters here from California. ExxonMobil has its global downstream business located here. While Washington is known for the political scene, it is also a center for finance, insurance, hospitality and health care, consulting and defense contractors among others. In the 1990's, the Dulles Corridor between the beltway and Dulles airport was dubbed the Silicon Valley of the East as a result of the number of high tech and internet companies that chose to locate in that area. While that sector has been through a down cycle, it is re-emerging in a more sustainable fashion.
