Dr. Forbes is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the department’s programs and operations. He teaches departmental courses in the following areas: Microeconomics, Industrial Organization, Public Finance, Managerial Economics, and Statistics. He is an active participant in the University’s Honors Program where he teaches a course in environmental economics. His research has focused on the economics of energy and the environment. He is an active participant in Stanford University’s Energy Modeling Forum in which energy experts from government, industry, universities, and other research organizations meet to study important energy and environmental issues of common interest. He is also a recent recipient of a research grant from the National Science Foundation to study the effect of geomagnetic storms on the electricity market.
