Joint Degree Programs with Law and Politics

  • A. Joint Programs with the School of Law and M.A. Programs Offered by the Department in Economics, Accounting, and Management: Twelve credit hours earned in the School of Law are applied to the M.A. degree in economics, accounting, or management. Similarly the student applies to the J.D. (law) degree up to twelve credit hours taken in the department. The following courses must be taken in the department for specific programs: Economics: Econ 662, Graduate Statistics (3); Econ 711, Advanced Microeconomic Theory I (3); Econ 712, Advanced Macroeconomic Theory I (3); Econ 763, Econometrics I (3); either Econ 721, Advanced Microeconomic Theory II (3) or Econ 722, Advanced Macroeconomic Theory II (3); and a graduate seminar (3). Accounting: Acct 604, Advanced Corporate Accounting (3); Acct 609, Advanced Cost Accounting (3); Acct 615, Accounting Theory (3); Acct 650, Graduate Accounting Seminar (3); Econ 662, Graduate Statistics(3); one elective graduate course in accounting (3). Management: Two areas are offered, Financial Management and Human Resources Management. Required courses common to both areas (eighteen credits): Mgt 534, Corporate Finance I (3); Mgt 565, Quantitative Methods in Decision Making (3); Mgt 610, Organization Theory and Behavior (3); Mgt 629, Strategic Planning and Control of Organizations (3); Econ 535, Ethics in Economics and Business (3); Acct 550, Managerial Accounting (3). Courses in the area of specialization (six credits): Financial Management: Mgt 532, Investment Analysis (3); Mgt 670, Seminar: Financial Management(3); Human Resources Management: Mgt 530, Human Resources Management; Mgt 673, Seminar: Human Resources Management (3).

  • B. Joint program with the Department of Politics: M.A. in international political economics. See details under "Economics" above. All students enrolled in joint programs must pass a comprehensive examination as specified by the department. Students must complete all required courses before the semester in which they will take the comprehensive examination.
